We are looking for an Assistant Editor, who can deliver rich editorial content that is engaging, brand building and appealing to our global community. 

The ideal candidate will have a clear understanding of Black Education’s goals and purpose. Believing in our mission and sharing our drive to deliver. They will be highly engaging, collaborative and enthusiastic to grow and developer as an editor. 

Role Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and editing articles and other editorial content
  • Identifying important messages and managing article pitches
  • Assigning writers with articles and managing deadlines and adjusting priorities
  • Monitoring and assessing audience engagement
  • Maintaining communications between writers, researchers and other stakeholders
  • Supporting the social media and marketing teams with headlines and informational content
  • Maintaining an editorial calendar

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Marketing or related subject
  • 1 year editing experience in media or related industry
  • Knowledge of AP style 
  • Developed editing and writing skills
  • Excellent research skills
  • Proven ability to use initiative, make solid decisions and good judgement
  • Has been exposed to multiple cultures, and in particular can relate to the black culture
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • An organised self-starter
  • A good communicator with all levels of staff and members of the community

Salary – dependent on experience
