If you’re in the UK or USA, here are a few Black-owned brick and mortar bookshops you can support:

  • New Beacon Books (London, UK): One of the UK’s first Black publishers and booksellers, New Beacon Books has been a cornerstone for Black literature since 1966.
  • My Book Basket (Birmingham, UK): Offering a large section of culturally diverse books largely aimed at children, but with books for adults to enjoy too!
  • Afrori Books (Brighton, UK): A haven for books by black authors. Offering books that span genres including the bestsellers and hidden gems. A welcoming space for readers and writers alike. 
  • The Lit. Bar (Bronx, USA): A vibrant space combining books and wine, The Lit. Bar celebrates diverse stories and community connections.
  • Marcus Books (Oakland, USA): Known as the oldest Black-owned bookstore in the U.S., Marcus Books has been a beacon of Black literature for decades.
